New Piece!
I’ve started a new painting!
As a way to continue growing my practice, and getting used to self-ideated art, I’m starting a large painting. The painting is a sort of database, where every layer is a reflection of the previous layer. Meaning, I will be painting something new every once in a while on the same canvas, painting directly over the previous piece. I would like to make it increasingly more textured as I go.
Off to a great start on it, I had an extra unopened 24x36 canvas in the attic, however it had a pretty large hole in it. Based on it’s L shape, I’d guess a box got set on it, and it ripped. I patched it really roughly today, a piece of bookbinding tape mod-podged to the back, then chunky gessoed on the front. Can hardly even tell it was there.
I’d like this piece to be ongoing, and ever-changing. Glueing, collaging, paper mache, painting, stenciling, who knows. I think I’ll start tomorrow once this rough gesso layer is dry.
